Legal Review Services for Family Law Agreements in New York

At Vaz Law, we offer virtual Legal Review Services throughout New York State for clients who want independent legal advice before signing an agreement or other important family law document. Whether your agreement was prepared through mediation, drafted by another attorney, or created as part of a Prenuptial or Postnuptial Agreement process, our attorney can review the document from your individual perspective and help you understand what you are agreeing to before you sign.

Our review goes beyond simply reading the document for errors. We explain your legal rights, responsibilities, and potential liabilities; discuss how the agreement may affect you financially and legally over the long term; identify provisions that may deserve additional consideration or clarification; and explain how New York law may apply to the issues addressed in your agreement. Most importantly, you have an opportunity to ask questions and receive legal advice from an attorney who represents your interests.

This can be particularly important for someone participating in mediation. A mediator is neutral and does not represent either spouse individually. Independent review gives you the opportunity to speak privately with your own attorney, understand how the proposed agreement affects you specifically, and make an informed decision about whether you are comfortable signing it.

Review Services can also be helpful for Prenuptial and Postnuptial Agreements, proposed divorce or separation agreements, settlement agreements, parenting and support provisions, and other family law documents prepared outside of Vaz Law.

You do not necessarily need full legal representation to benefit from meaningful legal advice. Sometimes what you need is an experienced attorney to review what has already been prepared, answer your questions, explain the potential consequences, and make sure you understand the agreement you are being asked to sign.

Once signed, legal agreements can create significant rights and obligations that may continue for many years. Taking the time to understand those terms before signing can give you greater clarity and confidence in the decisions you are making about your family, finances, and future.

This is a four-hour retainer. It is replenished if additional work is needed, and any unused balance is refunded when work is complete. This retainer is intentionally smaller than the Collaborative Divorce retainer, since a larger retainer typically isn't needed at this stage of the process.
